Author: Mlungisi Zwelihle Gumede                    Mpande with his slaves or izicathalala Mpande was the son of Senzangakhona and half brother of Sgujana, Shaka and Dingane. He was born in 1798 at Babanango in Zululand now called Kwazulu natal, with the help of vootrekkers he assassinated his brother Dingane and became the king of Amazulu from 1840 to 1872. Mpande was viewed as the weakman in comparison to his predecessors. He succeeded his father Cetshwayo ka Mpande ka Senzangakhona who was the last king of Amazulu to be officially recognized as such by the British. King Dinuzulu had eleven children including Solomon who succeeded him as the king. His head wife was Silomo ka Ntuzwa. Zululand had been divided into 13 smaller territories by British After the Anglo Zulu war and Dinuzulu administered one of them. In 1884 after the death of Cetshwayo Dinuzulu was too young to become the king because he was only 15 years old. After Zibhebhu ka Maphitha had tried to kill Cetshwayo, there was a big possibility that he could also kill Dinuzulu to claim power. Dunuzulu was taken into safe place in Transvaal by his uncles.
